چکیده

By studying cross-section autoradiograms of the spinal cord with dark field microscopy we demonstrated a ventral uncrossed corticospinal tract in the rat. Corticospinal fibers were labeled by the slow axoplasmic flow of a minute volume of high specific activity tritiated proline injected directly into the motor sensory cortex. The uncrossed ventral corticospinal tract was small but easily identifiable in the cervical region. More caudally the tract became less distinct and could not be traced below midthoracic levels. Only two corticospinal tracts were identified in this study: the well-known crossed dorsal corticospinal tract and the ventral uncrossed corticospinal tract described in this study.

Cells of origin, course, and termination patterns of the ventral, uncrossed component of the mature rat corticospinal tract.

The cells of origin, the course, and termination patterns of the ventral, uncrossed component of the rat corticospinal tract (CST) was investigated by using retrograde and anterograde tracing methods. Anterograde tracing with biotin dextran-amine (BDA) revealed the position and detailed morphology of CST fibers in the spinal cord. Cross sections on spinal levels C4, T8, and L4 showed labeled fi...

Persistent uncrossed corticospinal connections in patients with intractable focal epilepsy.

Corticospinal connections may be bilateral at birth, but a predominantly unilateral and crossed pattern develops by the toddler years. Acquired injury can alter the normal development of laterality such that uncrossed corticospinal connections persist, particularly if the injury is early in life and involves the motor system. Whether other developmental insults, such as childhood epilepsy, affe...

Existence of ipsilateral hemiparesis in ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: two case reports and review of the literature.

Supratentorial stroke presenting as contralateral hemiparesis is predominantly related to contralateral projection of the corticospinal tract. While most corticospinal fibers decussate at the level of the medulla, some tracts continue descending as ipsilateral ventral corticospinal fibers. In this systematic review of the literature and 2 case reports specifically seen in our institute, we desc...

Uncrossed actions of feline corticospinal tract neurones on hindlimb motoneurones evoked via ipsilaterally descending pathways.

Despite numerous investigations on the corticospinal system there is only scant information on neuronal networks mediating actions of corticospinal neurones on ipsilateral motoneurones. We have previously demonstrated double crossed pathways through which pyramidal tract neurones can influence ipsilateral motoneurones, via contralaterally descending reticulospinal neurones and spinal commissura...

Uncrossed actions of feline corticospinal tract neurones on lumbar interneurones evoked via ipsilaterally descending pathways.

Effects of stimulation of ipsilateral pyramidal tract (PT) fibres were analysed in interneurones in midlumbar segments of the cat spinal cord in search of interneurones mediating disynaptic actions of uncrossed PT fibres on hindlimb motoneurones. The sample included 44 intermediate zone and ventral horn interneurones, most with monosynaptic input from group I and/or group II muscle afferents an...
